*ASEAN Senior Official Meeting on Minerals Plus Three Consultation

The main discussion topic was to share the updates from plus three countries (Korea, China, Japan) regarding ‘ASEAN Minerals Cooperation Action Plan (AMCAP) phase 2: 2021-2025’ which was set in 2019. KIGAM gave presentations on status of global minerals outlook, market trend of each mineral commodities, experiences of cooperation with ASEAN and IS-Geo’s education program.

KIGAM particularly delivered detailed progress status of proposed IS-Geo training course associated with AMCAP 2021-2025 in 12th ASOMM+3 held on 12 December 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand. KIGAM intended to expand the KIGAM’s own ‘Geological Mapping and Mineral Exploration’ program specially designed for the ASEAN Member States for 5 years starting from 2021.

To further discuss this, KIGAM visited ASEAN Secretariat on February 2020 and proposed to implement a pilot training program. The planned pilot course was intended to be carried out in September at IS-Geo but converted to online course instead.

The training course on “Geological Mapping and Mineral Exploration” had started on December 28, 2020 altogether collaborating with ASEAN Secretariat. A total of 19 trainees* from ASEAN member countries were recruited. KIGAM mailed to all trainees USB with the full lectures as well as notified the online links where they can have full access for free.
