In 2018, four Korean scientists, with KIGAM researchers among them, participated in an IODP drilling expedition. They successfully carried out collaborative international research from IODP sailing activities.
With regard to international workshops on IODP scientific proposals, two KIGAM scientists participated in the Western Pacific Drilling (WEPAD) meeting (August 1-3, 2018) held in Kaoshiung, Taiwan, where they presented K-IODP scientific proposals. In addition, three countries (Korea, Japan, and China) held a joint IODP special session during the Asian Marine Geology-9 conference. Fifteen papers were presented at this conference. As part of the effort to realize education and outreach programs, the K-IODP Summer School took place from August 12 to 20 at Pusan National University, Korea. Fifteen graduate students from ten universities participated in this event. Four graduate students from four universities participated in the J-DESC Core School (March 7-12, 2018) event held by the Kochi Core Center of Japan for advanced training. K-IODP promoted K-IODP activities to the public through various channels as well.
