The Geological Museum in the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) is a live education place for understanding earth history

Starting as a geological specimen exhibition hall at the auditorium building in November of 1992, the Geological Museum at the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources has become Korea's only geological museum

Can we live without rocks?

Human civilization has rapidly developed on virtue of using stoneware, and we still take the benefits from stone. Most of the prime material in our life, such as building stones, metals, fossil fuels, cosmetics and medicines, come out of the rocks. The rocks are also essential in the natural scenery that heals our emotion

We can love as much as we know!

Since the earth was born 4.6 billion years ago, the crust made of rocks has been constantly moving and has formed new rocks, metal ores, and landscape. All life was born and evolved on the rock! Volcanoes and earthquakes, which sometimes cause huge disasters, are actually the evidences that the earth is alive. Would not we love the earth more if we try to understood her like a scary and gentle mother?

The Geological Museum collects, researches, and displays various geological specimens such as rocks, minerals, and fossils for easy understanding on the earth. We also run experience rooms and experiential education programs. In addition, we hold temporary exhibitions every two years to complement the permanent exhibits. The Geological Museum is an easy and fun place to solve various questions about the earth, such as what kind of rock is beneath my home, what kind of rock is used as a resource, and how life has been evolved on the earth

I hope we will be able to understand the past and present of the earth and build up a sense of predictin the future through the Geological Museum.

Thank you.
