Sample Repository

The Sample Repository systematically stores rock/surface core samples and Quaternary marine sediment samples collected from mineral resources exploration (metal, non-metal, construction material, placer deposit), energy resources exploration (oil, hot spring, geothermal), nuclear power plant and waste disposal site survey, and applied geological survey (land subsidence) executed by the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources, and perform its duty as a geological sample library.

The Sample Repository systematically stores rock/surface core samples and Quaternary marine sediment samples collected from mineral resources exploration (metal, non-metal, coalfield, construction material, placer deposit), energy resources exploration (oil, hot spring, geothermal), nuclear power plant and waste disposal site survey, and applied geological survey (land subsidence) executed by the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources, and perform its duty as a "geological sample library".

Drill cores, rocks, mineral samples stored in the Sample Repository are 231,392.3 m rock drill core samples of 16,494 boxes from 2,964 sites acquired by the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources from 1973 to 2013 (excluding oil drill exploration), and 2,735 boxes of rocks and mineral samples.

In addition, Special Exhibition Hall was arranged in the Sample Repository, and is utilized as a space for relaxation through visits to the Special Exhibitions on diverse topics.
