Since 2015, the leading Geoscience organizations in the three countries gathered together, and figuring out what they can do together on Geo R&D research for better and prosperous Northeastern countries: Korea, China and Japan.

The 3rd Trilateral GeoSummit, organized by the Geological Survey of Japan (GSJ), was held in Sapporo Japan on July 30 2019. This meeting was doubly special because Dr. LEE Young Joo, Director of Coordinating Committee for Geoscience Programmes in East and Southeast Asia (CCOP) and Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) delegation headed by Deputy Secretary-General (DSG) Ms. HAN Mei, attended the summit as observers.

During the meeting, the three organizations gave presentations respectively about the current status of geological research and achievements. And, they were in agreement for the importance and necessities of the trilateral cooperations, especially the newly rising research topics are broader than the boarders. The common interested R&D areas were active fault, geographic information system (GIS), 3D geological modeling, and coastal geology.

They concluded the 3 days long session, and had decided to hold the next 4th Trilateral GeoSummit in China in 2021.
