Carbon Utilization Research Department

The Carbon Utilization Research Department is dedicated to developing CO2 conversion technologies based on mineral carbonation. We focus on sustainable and low-carbon technologies using natural minerals and industrial by-products such as slag and gypsum. We conduct research that links lab-scale carbonation reactions using various materials with pilot-scale demonstrations for industrial application. Through this approach, we aim to enhance the practicality and industrial applicability of carbon utilization technologies.

Major Activities

  • Development of resource utilization technologies based on mineral carbonation
    * Target resources: natural minerals, slag, phosphogypsum, seawater desalination brine, etc
  • Securing and demonstrating key carbon conversion technologies to contribute to carbon neutrality
  • Development of mineral carbonation technologies utilizing industrial by-products such as slag and phosphogypsum
  • Development of technology for producing magnesium carbonates from seawater desalination brine
  • Development of technologies for manufacturing high-value carbonates and by-products
  • Development of integrated CO2 utilization technologies to address the climate crisis
  • On-site demonstration of mineral carbonation technology
