Resource Economics Research Department

The Resource Economics Research Department conducts research to support the formulation of national resource policies and legal frameworks in key areas such as feasibility assessments of resource development projects, bilateral and multilateral resource cooperation, and strategic resource stockpiling. In addition, the Division systematically produces and manages national resource statistics to inform government policymaking and provide reliable information to the public.

Major Activities

  • Develop government strategies for resource cooperation and management, including the Master Plan for Overseas Resource Development, inter-Korean resource cooperation, resource stockpiling, national industrial standards for mining, and training of future talent in resource development
  • Produce and manage mineral statistics (National Approved Statistics No. 115002) and rare metal statistics (National Approved Statistics No. 428001)
  • Conduct international development cooperation for bilateral resource partnerships (e.g., Vietnam, Tajikistan)
  • Establish and conduct a preliminary feasibility study system for resource exploration projects led by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and public institutions
  • Operate and respond to multilateral consultations on international critical mineral supply chains (IEA CMWP)
