Ore Geology Research Center

The Ore Geology Research Center is responsible for foundational research and technological development through geological investigations of ore deposits, studies on ore genesis, and the identification of key exploration indicators in the field of exploration—positioned at the upstream end of the mineral resources value chain. The center conducts domestic and international geological and geochemical surveys of mineral resources, establishes ore deposit exploration systems based on ore-forming factors, builds geological databases related to ore deposits, and validates exploration models to develop AI-powered mineral exploration technologies. By advancing these initiatives, the center contributes to national strategies for securing critical minerals and strives to lead the field of ore geology.

Research Areas

  • Classification of magnetite from domestic VTM (vanadium-titanium-magnetite) deposits using trace element and isotopic compositions
  • Genetic interpretation of the Uljin lithium pegmatite through studies on regional and internal zoning
  • Investigation of serpentinization processes in the Andong ultramafic complex and evaluation of its nickel potential
  • Investigation of the sulfide mineralization process in the Sannae nickel-copper deposit
  • Development and validation of an AI-based predictive model using geochemical data from stream sediments, leading to the identification of significant pegmatite occurrences
