Resources Recycling Research Center

The Resource Recycling Research Center focuses on the recovery and high-value utilization of secondary resources such as spent batteries, fuel cells, electronic waste, and smelting by-products. Through the development of low-carbon, eco-friendly mineral beneficiation and metallurgical process technologies, the center contributes to advancing the circular economy and securing national self-sufficiency in critical metals.

Major Activities

  • Development of high-efficiency metal recovery technologies from waste generated by next-generation mobility systems such as electric and hydrogen vehicles
    * Target resources: Electric vehicle batteries (Li, Ni), fuel cell MEAs (Pt)
  • Development of eco-friendly hydrometallurgical and electrochemical refining processes for secondary resources
    * Target resources: E-waste (PCB, Au, PGMs), and smelting by-products (Ga, Ge)
  • Battery recycling technology transferred
  • Selected as one of the Top 20 Environmental Technology Achievements of 2024 (EV battery recycling)
  • Development of original technology for recycling neodymium (Nd)-based rare earth magnets
  • Development of high-efficiency platinum LX-SX integrated process and high-purity recovery technology
