Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Signing Ceremony between

KIGAM and GOSCOMGEOLOGY

Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM, President Dr. Bok Chul Kim) and the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Geology and Mineral Resources (GOSCOMGEOLOGY, Chairman Mr. Islamov Bobir) had a MOU signing ceremony on April 19, 2019. This MOU signing ceremony was initiated specially for the Presidential Visit from the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Uzbekistan during his visit on the Central Asian countries.

The cooperation between KIGAM and GOSCOMGEOLOGY began in 2005 by signing a MOU for the first time and renewed its status for a couple of times. In 2013, the both organization conducted a joint research on discovering rare-metal deposits in the perspective subzone of the Kashkadarya region. 

As for this time, both parties have agreed to conduct joint projects on constructing a big data retrieval and management system, and a 3D mine hazard forecast system for Uzbekistan.

Although there was a little time gap in terms of close collaborative research works, the cooperation between KIGAM and GOSCOMGEOLOGY expands to the training programs. In KIGAM, we have International School for Geoscience Resources (IS-GEO) since 2010, and one of KIGAM’s international missions is to offer『Education & Training』 courses in the field of geoscience. KIGAM had 15 trainees from GOSCOMGEOLOGY and Uzbekistan governments until 2015.

Dr. Bok Chul KIM, President of KIGAM, said that “I hope that there are more active participation from GOSCOMGEOLOGY and Uzbekistan in the future with taking today’s start as the great motivation.”
