Korea wishes to host the 37th IGC 2024 in Busan

Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources(KIGAM) and Geological Society of Korea(GSK) now closely collaborate to host the 37th International Geological Congress(IGC) which will be possibly hosted in Busan Korea in the year of 2024. IGC is known as the most critical activity of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS).

 

IGC is a nonprofit scientific and educational organization and being hosted by various countries throughout the world at 4-year intervals. The main purpose of the IGC is to provide an opportunity to promote the importance of Geoscience to the public as well as information exchanges between experts from all over the world on site. Moreover, IGC is a great platform to deal with basic-application study of Geoscience, Geoscientific issues of the world and to find the proper solutions to the issues.

The number of the IGC participants is about six thousand people annually on average. 34th IGC was hosted by Australia back in 2012, 35th IGC is going to hosted by South Africa in 2016 and 36th IGC will hosted by India in 2020.

The 37th IGC hosting country will be decided at the 36th IGC in South Africa in 2016,  

The year of 2016 will be the Geological Society of Korea’s 70th anniversary and the year of 2018 will be the Centennial anniversary year of KIGAM. If Korea becomes the hosting country for the 37th IGC, it would be a great chance to disseminate Korea’s high capability of the Geological research to the world.
