Inaugurations Ceremony of the 20th KIGAM President

Dr. Kim Bok Chul was newly appointed as the 20th President for Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM), and KIGAM held the inauguration ceremony at KIGAM Auditorium Hall on August 31, 2018.

Dr. Kim Bok Chul was graduated from Yonsei University with Ph.D in geology. He joined KIGAM in 1988, and began his career since then. He served as the Director of the Planning and Coordination Division and Director of Geology Division at KIGAM. Also, He was dispatched to National Research Council of Science & Technology (NST) serving as the Director of Division of R&D Strategy & Policy. Currently, He is the chairman of the Korea Society of Economic and Environmental Geology, also a member of advisory expert of National R & D Information Management Committee from the Ministry of Science and ICT.  

At this inauguration ceremony, Dr. Kim presented 4 new core innovative agendas for KIGAM.

- First, Create a research environment where all researchers can communicate freely with each other

- Second, Change main R&D projects for the more open, challenge, and convergent

- Third, Strengthen public accountability with mission-oriented KIGAM’s R&D works

- Fourth, Innovate global-level of R&D groups for research competitiveness and collect outstanding researchers by strengthening international cooperation.

For those to realize feasible actions, the new KIGAM President, Dr. Kim Bok Chul, emphasized the three core tasks of 'Innovation of major R&D management’,  

'Improvement of KIGAM integrity and moral through change of organizational culture' and 'Establishment of fair personal evaluation system'. 

Dr. Kim also emphasized that "breaking the routineness and habitualness of general practices and customs of the organization is the top priority". Dr. Kim said that he is going to do his best for "raising potentiality of KIGAM toward world-class level institution where people share beliefs with fair competition and camaraderie fellowship harmonize together by refreshing moral”.

Dr. Kim Bok Chul was determinated to appoint at the 95th temporary committee board meeting held by the National Research Council of Science & Technology (NST, Chairman Dr. Whon, Kwangyun) on August 30, 2018. Dr. Kim’s official term as the president of KIGAM starts with the inaguration ceremony on August 31 for the next 3 years.
