A Farewell Ceremony for the 19th President of KIGAM

 

Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) had a farewell ceremony for the 19th President of KIGAM, Dr. Joong-Ho Synn, at 10 am on April 20 (Fri.) at the 2nd floor in the KIGAM Auditorium.

 

Dr. Joong-Ho Synn was appointed as the 19th President of KIGAM on September 8th, 2016. Dr. Synn systemized the ‘Quick Responses’ for the Gyeongju and Pohang earthquakes, which have been recognized for his contribution to make KIGAM a science and technology research institute with a close relation to the public concerning about people’s lives and safeties.

 

Also, the ‘Carbon Mineralization R&D’, the earth environment saving program as known as ‘Carbon Money System’ research result was shown at 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. It was the huge hit in terms of announcing about the Korea’s environment-friendly policies, technologies, and realization in our daily lives to the rest of the world.

 

Another achievement is that Dr. Synn secured the budget to build a new 3D/4D vessel, which had been a KIGAM’s long-time desire, especially in petroleum & marine geologists. With the new vessel, KIGAM can open the new navigation age in searching for the non-traditional energy resources exploration.

 

Dr. Synn also improved for KIGAM employees’ welfare by making unique and distinguished organization culture with Free-Fri Time and OK-Forum SHAKE for more accessible communications among the employees, 3S (Simple-Speed-Smart) Campaign for efficient work engagement, and Work-Family coexistence support.

The 19th President of KIGAM, Dr. Joong-Ho Synn has Ph. D. in Mineral Resources and Petroleum Engineering from Seoul National University, Korea. He joined KIGAM in 1991, and served as the Executive Director of R&D Policy Division (October 2008~March 2010), the Executive Director of Geologic Environment Division (November 2013~October 2014), the Vice President (March 2015~September 2016). and the President. Dr. Synn was awarded Order of Science and Technology Merit of ‘Doyak Medal’ from the Ministry of Interior and Safety in 2016 for his contribution to development in Korea’s science and technology.

 

All the employees at the farewell ceremony have given thanks for Dr. Synn’s works and contributions to KIGAM, and Dr. Synn finalized his farewell remark with sharing Linda Ronstadt’s “Desperado.”
