Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) and Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) hold the 2nd KIGAM-GTK Joint Workshop in Somerset Palace Seoul on the 12th of September 2017. During the workshop, delegations from GTK, GGGI, Green Technological Centre (GTC) and KIGAM was participated. In this time, Dr. Weon-Seo KEE, the Vice President of KIGAM attended to the workshop.

For the Pre workshop meeting, on the 11th of September delegations from GTK and KIGAM visited the Global Green Growth Institute’s (GGGI) headquarters in Seoul, the Republic of Korea. The GGGI is a treaty based international, inter-governmental organization dedicated to supporting and promoting strong, inclusive and sustainable economic growth in developing countries and emerging economies. Since both organization is seeking opportunity to expand its capacity toward various ministries and financial organizations for funding, the aim of the visit was to understand the role and the status of international projects and funding activities of GGGI.
The aim of the joint workshop is to specifically designate possible and feasible cooperation fields to develop joint operations. GTK and KIGAM agreed to start to join forces to develop a strong partnership to conduct international projects together. And the main target of bilateral cooperation is South East Asia, mainly via World Bank and Asian Development Bank funding.
One of the main target is managed aquifer recharge and groundwater management. Geological Survey of Finland will continue its groundwater researches in Vietnam and KIGAM is also carrying out a groundwater management project in Mekong River Delta Basin under CCOP cooperation. In this regard, GTK and KIGAM can start their international cooperation related to groundwater management and build up joint references.
