World Climate Industry EXPO(WCE) 2023 in Busan

On May 25, 2023, Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources(KIGAM) participated in the World Climate Industry EXPO(WCE) 2023 held in Busan, Korea. In the WCE 2023, KIGAM held a technology conference on sustainable strategies and technologies in the generation of climate change and resource wars, especially focused on technologies about mineral resources and resources recycling.


The WCE 2023 was held from May 25 to 27, 2023 at BEXCO to showcase the latest technologies and policies in the global climate environment and energy fields to cope with the climate crisis, consisting of Pre-event, Opening Ceremony, Exhibition, Conference, and Side events. It is organized and supported by Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Minsitry of Oceans and Fisheries, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Security and Public Administration, Busan Metropolitan City, World EXPO 2030 Bid Committee, Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Korea International Trade Association(KITA). A lot of organizations and institutions, including KIGAM, attended and participated the WCE 2023.


The technology conference by KIGAM lasted for four hours from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Exhibition Center 2 in BEXCO. At the beginning of the conference, Dr. Kyeong Woo Chung, the Executive Director of Resources Utilization Division at KIGAM, gave a presentation about new strategies for the beginning of the energy transition era. Subsequent sessions were composed of presentations and discussions on resource acquisition and utilization by related experts.


The President of KIGAM, Dr. Pyeong-Koo Lee, left a comment on the WEC and the conference that "Even though human beings have achieved remarkable technological development and economic growth, there followed climate change due to reckless resources development and environmental destruction." And he added that "We will find solutions to solve climate change problems through discussions on climate change and securement of sustainable resource supply chains."
