Dr. Pyeong-Koo Lee, President of the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources(KIGAM), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for research cooperation with the Nigerian Geological Survey (NGSA) at the Cretaceous Room of the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources on Thursday, October 24, 2024.
Nigeria, a representative country rich in critical minerals in Africa, had participated in the 'KIGAM INTERNATIONAL NETWORK FORUM 2024 - Critical Minerals in Asia and Africa’ in March, and discussed the status of critical minerals and ways to activate joint research.
At the MOU signing ceremony, the two organizations promised cooperation in the exploration and reserve assessment of mineral resources, critical mineral research and development, joint research on groundwater and geological disasters, joint exploration and research programs, information and technology exchange, and joint seminars and conferences.
President Lee said, “Through this MOU with NGSA, we have created an opportunity to secure global critical minerals and establish a mid to long-term resource cooperation system between Korea and Africa.” He added, “We will continue to establish a new critical mineral R&D partner based on KIGAM’s technological know-how in the fields of mineral resource exploration-mining-beneficiation-smelting.”
