Hybrid GHP System and Monitoring System
HYBRID GHP SYSTEM AND MONITORING SYSTEM KIGAM

A hybrid geothermal heat pump (GHP) system and related monitoring system were installed in the KIGAM SPOREX building. The hybrid GHP system consists of a vertical closed-loop system and open-loop systems connected to the second floor and the third floor, respectively. Three wells, in this case a geothermal well, an injection well and a monitoring well, were constructed behind the SPOREX building. This GHP system is referred to as a “hybrid” system because the geothermal wells are designed to include a single U-tube for the closed-loop system and well pump and a production and reinjection pipe for the open-loop system. The advantages of this system are the reduced initial costs of installation and the enhanced performance of the closed-loop system. The monitoring system will be used to analyze the performance of each GHP system as well as thermal, chemical and microbiological changes in the groundwater of the surrounding area.
