KOREA INSTITUTE OF GEOSCIENCE AND MINERAL RESOURCES

Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources(KIGAM) and the Committee of IYPE Korea had the unveiling commemoration of 「International Year of Planet Earth」poetry engraved monument in front of the KIGAM's geological museum on December 10, 2008. UN General Assembly declared the year of 2008 as the 「International Year of Planet Earth」, and encouraged all member countries to embrace earth science related academic seminars and public information for 3 years (2007-2009).

Along with the slogan, the entire 191 UN member countries and International Union of Geological Science(IUGS) proceeded a number of programs globally and regionally with the help of UNESCO. Earth science communities attempt to enlighten the public about importances of clean ecosystem for the future generations.

The committee of IYPE Korea is consisted of 14 geo-science related organizations including the Geological Society of Korea, and commemorates 「International Year of Planet Earth」by various exhibitions, active participation of the pubic, and efficient PRs.
