MOU Signing Ceremony

with

Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources, Germany (BGR)

 

Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) President Dr. Kyu Han Kim participated the EuroGeoSurveys (EGS) workshop on March 26 in Brussels, Belgium. As the first official event of the EGS Directors’ workshop, KIGAM had MOU signing ceremony with the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources, Germany (BGR).

 

This MOU is for exchanging information and experts on mineral resources, natural disaster mitigation plans, earthquakes, climate changes, CO2 storage, and other environmental issues.

 

BGR is the incubator of German geosciences research in various fields since 1873, and KIGAM is the vice chair of the Steering Committee of the Coordinating Committee for Geoscience Programmes in East and Southeast Asia (CCOP), and BGR, Germany is the vice chair of the Advisory Group countries in the CCOP. KIGAM and BGR have amicable relationship over the many years.

 

The EGS Directors’ workshop was held for discussing about the current status-co of geo-resources and resource utilization in the future. For the workshop, 50 leaders from the 33 European geosciences research organizations, USGS, Geological Society of Africa, South American countries, and other Asian countries.

 

The workshop was consisted with 11 presentations and series of panel discussions. KIGAM participated as one of the presenters with the title of “The Geological Excellence and National Wealth”.
