「20th Anniversary of Korea-China Joint Geological Research」

Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM, President Dr. Bok Chul Kim) participated the 「20th Anniversary of Korea-China Joint Geological Research」 on October 23, 2019. This anniversary is very special for both Korea and China in many ways because this 20-year-long research has verified many hypotheses over the years.

The Korea-China Research Group was started in 1994 right after the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and China. And, The group of joint research team achieved many goals from the courses of the field survey started in 1999. One of the outstanding academic achievements is to prove the hypothesis of the Hongseong-Odaesan collision belt from the Triassic collision in the Korean Peninsula, which is connected to China's Qinling-Dabie-Sulu collision belt.

The Korea-China cooperation is now expanding toward a grand international research proposal involving geologists from Korea, China, Japan, and India for a special issue on Lithos on the theme of the Asian Earth Movement.

President Kim was saying “tonight’s gathering will become a chance to blossom China-Korea relationships even further.”
