KIGAM-IAG MOU Signing Ceremony

Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM, President Dr. Bok Chul Kim) and Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics of Mongolian Academy of Sciences (IAG, Director Professor Sodnomsambuu Demberel) signed the MOU for the ‘Intraplate Setting Active Fault and Earthquake’, as known for ‘IntraSAFE’.

With this MOU, this research is going to be proceeded in Mogod Fault Region in the Mid-Northen Part of Mongolia FROM 2020. The reason we believe that Mongolia is the ideal partner to Korea is uncanny resemblances of faults in the both countries. According to the Kompsat Satellite Image Analyses and local surveys, the magnitude 6.7 at Mogod Earthquake in 1967 shows many similarities to the current activities of Yangsan Faults in Korea’s .

At the end, the both leaders agreed that all those joint R&D efforts between IAG and KIGAM have brought us good results, and today’s MOU will lead mutual benefits to Mongolia and Korea.
