The Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (Dr. Kyu Han Kim, the President of KIGAM), signed MOU with the Mineral Resources Authority of Mongolia (Ms. Uuriintuya, the Director of MRAM) at Shangri-La Hotel, Ulaanbaatar in July 18, 2016. The MOU was signed to create a favourable environment in conducting joint-researches and executing technological cooperation on assessing the mineral resources.

The major purpose of the MOU is basically to strengthen the R&D ties in the field of geology and mineral resources between the two nations, Mongolia and the Republic of Korea. Specifically, producing the geological map of the number of main mineral resources reserved in Mongolia, conducting joint research in the range from exploration to development of mineral resources, and exchanging the human resources are the contents of areas of collaboration.

Based on the MOU, both institutes have agreed to produce the geological map of Mongolia at a scale of 1:50,000. This is a pre-requisite requirement for the development of the mineralized zone of copper and rare earth mineral resources which are located in the southern parts of Gobi desert, Mongolia. Furthermore, the MOU approves MRAM and KIGAM to conduct the joint exploration of mineral resources that are embedded over Mongolia.
