KIGAM-GBA MOU Signing Ceremony

Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM, President Dr. Bok Chul Kim) participated the Europe-Korea Conference on Science & Technology (EKC). The EKC has been the important conference, which links between the prominent Koreas and European scientists and engineers for more than a decade. During the conference, the EKC intends to find new partners, exchange knowledge & ideas and discuss recent progress and future trends in science and technology.

As one of the important EKC participants, KIGAM was attending the EKC 4 times in a row since 2015 for strengthening Geoscience relations with the outstanding Korean scientists who reside in all over the Europe. During the 2019 EKC, KIGAM participated numerous programs starting with the Opening Ceremony, President Roundtable for examining Korea-Europe strength on R&D, and Matchmaking Session with KIGAM and related European geoscience R&D institutes.


While the KIGAM delegates were in Vienna, KIGAM and Geological Survey of Austria (GBA) renewed the MOU for Geological and geophysical surveys for geo-hazard mitigation, geophysical methods and software, and airborne geophysical methods and geoelectrics. The KIGAM delegation leader, Vice President Dr. Kim Gwang-Eun, participated the MOU renual ceremony on behalf of KIGAM president.

The both organizations, KIGAM and GBA, will focus more on advancing geophysical explorations, natural disaster mitigations, and groundwater security technology. Also, thefuture co-joint research elaborate up to the higher level such as projects for the Austrian Academy of Science and EU frameworks.    

 

Lastly, the KIGAM delegates visited the headquarter of Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO). KIGAM (Earthquake Research Center) was appointed as the Korea NDC; Korea National Data Center in 1996. Since then, KIGAM’s researchers have been working very closely together with CTBTO.
