Ambassador of the Republic of Ecuador visits KIGAM

Ambassador of the Republic of Ecuador (Mr. Oscar Herrera Gilbert) visited Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (Kyu Han Kim, the President of KIGAM) in April 18, 2016.
The purpose of his visit was to attend the Opening Ceremony of the regular training program which is entitled “Exploration and Development of Mineral Resources.” organized by KIGAM’s International School for Geoscience Resources (IS-Geo).
Before the Opening Ceremony, there was a meeting between the President of KIGAM and Ambassador. The President of KIGAM and Ambassador discussed regarding the future joint research projects and research interchange between KIGAM and INIGEMM*.
* INIGEMM: the National Institute of Geological Research, Mining, Metallurgical Republic of Ecuador.
During the Opening Ceremony, Dr. Kyu Han Kim, the President of KIGAM delivered a Welcoming Address and then, Ambassador of Ecuador delivered Congratulatory address. This time. twenty four trainees from twelve different countries* will be educated with the special curriculum of regular training program. Five of the trainees are from Ecuador and they had a chance to briefly meet Ambassador of Ecuador at the end of the ceremony.
* Cambodia, Ecuador, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Republic of Turkey, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam.
After the ceremony, Ambassador visited the Earthquake Research Center (ERC) of KIGAM. During the Lab Tour at the ERC, ERC gave a general presentation of their activities including the earthquake early warning system.
Due to a magnitude 7.8 earthquake on April 17, the state of emergency is still in effect in Ecuador.
