Dr. Young Joo Lee Elected for the

Next Director of CCOP Technical Secretariat

 

Dr. Young Joo Lee, the Director of the Global Cooperation Division, Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources, was elected as the next Director of CCOP Technical Secretariat. As the upcoming Director of CCOP T/S, Dr. Lee says that he has strong wills to make CCOP much healthier. He has the blue print to make CCOP more “viable, visible and valuable” together with supporting his predecessors and Permanent Representatives of CCOP Member Countries to solve emerging Geoscience issues in the CCOP region.

 

Dr. Lee as the next Director of the CCOP T/S, it is going to be the great foundation for future KIGAM’s further international activities in the CCOP region, which in a way also supporting Korea government’s Geoscience directions.

The election process began in the last May 2018, and 8 CCOP Member Countries were participating out of 14 Member Countries. This election was strategically important to KIGAM and the Korean governments considering CCOP is the only Geoscience related intergovernmental organization Geoscience in the Asia-Pacific region. His election campaign was supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) as to strengthen international networks in the field of Geoscience, especially for the CCOP region. Dr. Lee’s new term will start from the April 1, 2019, and it shall last for the next 3 years. The roles of the Director for the CCOP T/S is supervising the entire administrational affairs for the CCOP T/S, and serving as final decision maker for the all CCOP activities.

 

Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resource (KIGAM) is the Permanent Representative organization to the CCOP, and so far there were 2 (two) Principal Researchers from KIGAM served as the dircetors of CCOP T/S [Dr. Kim Sang Yeop, (April 1995~August 2000), Dr. Chun Hee Young,(June 2007~March 2010)].
