Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) was successfully able to bid International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH) for the 2018 44th IAH Congress in Daejeon,  Korea. The 42nd IAH General Meeting announced it on September 15. 

 

 

IAH was established in 1956, currently have 4000 experts as members in 135 countries. The IAH is the only prestigious international meeting in the field of groundwater. 

 

KIGAM was fully committed holding the international event. KIGAM specially organized envoys for attracting IAH with supports from International hydrogeological Association Korean Branch, Daejeon Marketing Corporation. The KIGAM President, Dr. Kyu Han Kim, explained the meaning of holding the IAH General Meeting in 2018 for KIGAM, and all the committees were agreed unanimously. 

 



 

The 2018 IAH is going to be held in Daejoen Convention Center from September 9th to 14th with the theme of “Groundwater and Life”. The meeting is going to be in series of special presentations and lectures. Also, the intensive discourses are going to be followed. KIGAM expects to visit more than 1000 hydrology experts around the world. 

 

For the successful outcome, KIGAM will, first, cooperate domestic networks such as  academic associations and universities. From the 2018 IAH, KIGAM and IAH are going to enhance Korea’s gropundwater research capabilities. Also, they will use this opportunity to alert people groundwater as the essential element for prolonging lives. The sustainable groundwater utilization and preservation of ecology technology can also be applied in Southeast Asia. 

 

 

The year 2018 is extra special for KIGAM since it is the KIGAM’s historic centennial year, and KIGAM is enthusiastic to inform the KIGAM’s research abilities. President Myung-Wan Lee from the Daejeon Marketing Corporation expects this international event will encourage the local economy booming and name value of the city. The experts assume that it will bring the total revenue sum of $5.5 million USD in the near future. 

 

Dr. Kyu Han Kim from KIGAM mentioned that the 2018 IAH is going to be the big step for improving our research capability. As of this moment, KIGAM researchers should bear in their minds that our research can influence the human prosperous.
