KIGAM in CKC 2015 for 'Canada-Korea Conference on Science and Technology'

Dr. Kyu Han Kim, the President of Korea Institute of Geoscience & Mineral Resources (KIGAM), participated CKC 2015 for 'Canada-Korea Conference on Science & Technology' at the Delta Resort in Kananaski Calgary, Canada from July 26th to July 28th.

 

The CKC 2015 was in the theme of Korea-Canada Free Trade Agreement and Free Technology Collaboration, and the leaders in the related fields were gathered from the both countries to discuss about science & technology cooperation regarding to the Korea-Canada FTA that is effective from 2015.

Dr. Kyu Han Kim presented about Korea's energy demand and supply status and Korea-Canada energy R&D projects at the Plenary Session of the Opening Ceremony. Also, he discussed about the KIGAM's roles in Korea-Canada's co-jointed projects in unconventional energy and energy and mineral resources projects in the Arctic region.

In the afternoon of the very same day, KIGAM and Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) held the 'KIGAM-GSC Symposium on Shale Oil and Gas and Arctic Exploration'. This session was the follow-up from the 2014 High Level Talk between Korea and Canada when the Korea's Madam President officially visited Canada. KIGAM and NRCan GSC discussed about renewing MOU during the 2014 Presidential visit, and the delegates from GSC visited KIGAM on February 2015 for signing MOU cooperating on Geology, Mineral & Petroleum Resources and Geologic Environment.

 

The KIGAM-GSC Symposium began with the Opening Remark by Dr. Kyu Han Kim, followed by Dr. Philip Hill's Welcoming Speech, and by Dr. Sangchun Lee's Congratulatory Speech.

 

It was organized with two sessions for KIGAM and GSC researchers' presentations on Korea-Canada's R&D in Shale Resources (shale oil, shale gas) and energy & mineral resources developments in Arctic Region.

 

Dr. Kim mentioned that KIGAM will be the bridge for Korea-Canada energy and mineral resources developments.
