Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (Dr. Kyu Han Kim,  President of KIGAM) signed an MOU with Geophysical Survey of Russian Academy of Sciences (Dr. Alexey Malovichko, Director-General of GS RAS) on June 11th, 2015 at KIGAM.

It was signed to renew the first MOU between two organizations which was signed back in 2009.
The main purpose of renewing the MOU is to exchange information on seismological data and geohazards between two organizations for reducing the earthquake-induced tsunami hazard. Plus, it is to improve the capability of monitoring seismic activities in East sea of Korea as well as neighboring countries and to promote joint researches on geohazards in both countries.
 
Dr. Kyu Han Kim, President of KIGAM, said that “it’s wonderful to renew the MOU between KIGAM and GS RAS.” He also added that the  MOU will make one step forward to strengthen a partnership between KIGAM and GS RAS particularly on tsunami warning in East sea of Korea. For this reason, KIGAM is setting up two additional joint stations around the Korean Peninsula to improve the near real-time data exchange.
