KIGAM in the 70th CCOP Steering Committee Meeting

 

KIGAM President, Dr. Joong-Ho Synn, participated the 70th CCOP Steering Committee Meeting from March 12th to 16th in Vientiane Laos. At the beginning of the meeting, CCOP awarded Dr. Synn an appreciation plaque for his dedication as the Chairman of the Steering Committee for the past 3 years. As his successor, Mr. Shahar Effendi bin Abdullah Azizi from Malaysia was voted as the next Chairman. 

 

The meeting lasted for three days starting with ‘Finance Committee Meeting’, ‘Steering Committee Meeting’, and ‘Field Trip to Vang Vieng’. For the ‘Finance Committee Meeting’, delegates from China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, philippine, and Vietnam were joined, and Mr. Ioannis Abatzis from the Chairman of the CCOP Advisory Group moderated the FC Meeting as the Chairman.

 

At the Steering Committee Meeting, it began with Mr. Keo Khamphavong’s welcome remarks who is the Director of Geology and Mines at the Ministry of Laos Energy & Mineral Resources. As mentioned on above, the next was SC Chair Hand-Over Ceremony. During the ceremony, Dr. Synn thanked CCOP and Member Countries’ supports and cooperation for the SC’s activities. Also, he mentioned that KIGAM as the representative organization of Korea to CCOP that we kept supporting the new SC chair, Mr. Azizi.

 

During the Meeting, Dr. Young Joo Lee director of KIGAM’s Global Cooperation Office announced about upcoming the ‘54th CCOP Annual Session’ and the ‘71st Steering Committee Meeting’ in Busan, Korea. Furthermore, KIGAM offered a special session for KIGAM’s centennial anniversary during the Annual Session. In this new special session, the leaders from the earth science relate organizations from around the globe will make the series of presentations about the future directions of Geoscience R&D developments. 

 

Finally, the SC meeting finally announced about the election results of selecting the Regional Expert. In total of 2 candidates, 9 Member Countries participated on voting, and Dr. Dhiti Tulyatidd was elected as the new regional expert.
