Research Agreement (RA) Signing Ceremony

between KIGAM Korea and MRPAM Mongolia

Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM, President Dr. Synn Joong-Ho) and Mineral Resources and Petroleum Authority of Mongolia (MRPAM, Chairman Mr. Kherlen Khishigjargal) had a Research Agreement (RA) Signing Ceremony on March 6 2018. This RA will serve to complete the geological mapping at the scale of 1:50,000 in Mongolia.

This RA is the follow-up progress of the continued KIGAM-MRPAM joint research project since 2015, which is about the discovery of the major factors for the prediction of the hidden ore body based on 3D geological modelling. It was targeted for the porphyry copper mineralized zone in Tsogttsetsii area of the southern Mongolia.

KIGAM has close relationships with MRPAM. KIGAM’s International School for Geoscience Resources (IS-GEO) invited 31 trainees from MRPAM since 2010.

The joint R&D works between KIGAM and MRPAM are well-recognized by the both Korean and Mongolian governments. 13th Korea-Mongolia Business Forum』 held in Seoul on January 16 2018, the research cooperation between KIGAM and MRPAM was introduced as one of the successful cases in the mining sector between Korea and Mongolia’s collaborative works.

Dr. Synn Joong-Ho, President of KIGAM, mentioned “I hope these collaborative R&D works bring us with more practical economic developments, which shall benefit both Korea and Mongolia.”
