KIGAM-CODELCO MOU Signing Ceremony and Korea-Chile Mining & Energy Technology Workshop

On April 22, KIGAM (Dr. Kyu Han Kim, President) signed a MOU with CODELCO (Corporacion Nacional Del Cobre), one of the world's leading copper production/development corporations in Chile, to establish a strong partnership for developing technologies related to utilization of low-quality copper in Chile.

The MOU Signing Ceremony between KIGAM (Dr. Kyu Han KIM, President of KIGAM) and CODELCO (Mr. Nelson Pizarro, President of CODELCO) was held on April 22 (local time), with MS. Aurora Williams Baussa, the Minister of Mining of Chile (far left), and Mr. Yoon Sang-jick, the Minister of Trade, Industry & Energy of Korea(far right) present.


The MOU signing ceremony was successfully held and finished in Sheraton Chile Santiago Hotel, with Mr. Yoon Sang-jick, the Minister of Trade, Industry & Energy of Korea and MS. Aurora Williams Baussa, the Minister of Mining of Chile, present at the meeting. Also, the "Korea-Chile Mining & Energy Technology Workshop" was held on the same day, providing a platform on which many participants could share insights and ideas for realizing creative economy.

Through the MOU signing ceremony, KIGAM and CODELCO discussed plans for joint research, workshops, technical seminars, exchange of experts and sharing information on  mineral resources.

The MOU signing is expected to pave the road for strong collaboration between KIGAM and CODELCO to make the best use of copper ores buried in Chile and develop technologies for utilizing low-quality copper ores as well.

The Korea-Chile Mining & Energy Technology Workshop was jointly organized by the Ministry of Technology, Industry & Energy of Korea and the Ministry of Mining of Chile, with a variety of organizations joining Workshop, namely KIGAM, MIRECO, KEMCO, Hanhwa Q Cell from Korea's side, and CODELCO, COCHILCO, ENAMI, SERNAGEOMIN, AChEE, CIFES from Chile's side.

The Korea-Chile Mining & Energy Technology Workshop was held in Sheraton Chile Santiago Hotel, to discuss ideas for realizing creative economy in the mineral and energy sector.


Delegations from these organizations gave thematic presentations during the workshop, which were followed by a brainstorming session with participants sitting in a round table to share ideas for realizing creative economy in mineral & energy sector.

Dr. Kyu Han Kim, President of KIGAM, said that KIGAM has a plan to expand joint research with Chile, well-known to be the copper powerhouse in the world, adding that Korean private companies will also be given chances for resource development businesses in Chile.
