Participating EGS Director's Workshop

Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources(Dr. Kyu Han Kim, President) joined the EuroGeoSurveys(EGS) Directors' Workshop on March 25th, 2015.

Thirty three EGS member countries and many other nations including the United States, Canada, South Africa and Botswana gathered together in Brussel, Belgium to give presentations on "Geological Infrastructure Priorities in Africa and Beyond".

On behalf of KIGAM, Dr. Yongje Kim, the Executive Director of International Cooperation Office gave a presentation entitled, "K-Geoscience for Africa and Beyond". First, overall activities of Korea for supporting infrastructure in Africa were introduced, followed by KIGAM's mineral exploration activities in Ethiopia and DR. Congo. Dr. Kim also mentioned that KIGAM is planning to collaborate with Mozambique regarding mineral & petroleum resources sector.

He also highlighted that KIGAM is also going to offer technical support for BDM(Billion Dollar Map) Project, led by World Bank and United Nations. The idea of BDM project is to provide accessible geodata sets of Africa to the public. The EGS Directors' Workshop provided a platform on which various geological institutes worldwide could share different insights for the common goal of African prosperity.

In particular, IS-Geo(International School of Geoscience Resources) of KIGAM drew a huge attention from all the participants of the EGS Directors' Workshop.
