The CKC 2021 in KIGAM

The time of one of the most valued international conferences came back in 2021 despite the global pandemic circumstances lie upon us. The 2021 Canada-Korea Conference on Science and Technology (CKC) was held in both Halifax, Canada and Korea on September 2, 2021.

This is the second year of executing the dual meeting systems both online and in-person since the COVID-19 hit us gravely. I would like to applause the hard efforts of the leadership of the Association of Korean-Canadian Scientists and Engineers (AKCSE) to make this conference happen in this difficult situation.

Briefly, the Canada-Korea Conference on Science and Technology (CKC) is a Multidisciplinary conference that aims to bring together experts and leaders from academia, industry, research institutes, and the governments of Canada and Korea to discuss up-to-date challenges in science, technology, and innovation (ST&I), and how we work together to seek solutions since 2011. The CKC serves as the major platform between Canada and Korea for fruitful collaborations.

KIGAM participated in the ‘4th Canada-Korea Strategic ST&I Cooperation Forum’ in Carbon Neutrality. After the 2015 Paris Agreement, the climate change agenda for lowering global temperature has been the ultimate goal to achieve. In 2019, the concept of ‘Carbon Neutrality’ is adapted in emission and absorption/removal of greenhouse gas to balance and reduce effectively.

Korea’s current Moon Administration announced the ‘2050 Carbon Neutral Plan Declaration’ in 2020 and responding to the ‘Carbon Neutral Promotion Strategy’ confirming plans such as the 2050 Long-Term Low-Carbon Power Generation Strategy (LEDS).

As one of the key R&D institutes in Korea, KIGAM has the unique know-how in COunderground storage technology system to add the cutting-edge science chapter in bringing the ‘Carbon Neutrality’.
