MOU Signing Ceremony between KIGAM and NGS

On September 28, 2022, Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources ("KIGAM", President: Dr. Pyeong-Koo Lee) signed a Memorandum of Understanding(hereinafter referred to as "MOU") with National Geological Survey of Mongolia ("NGS", Chairman: Mr. Chuluun Oidov) signed to further expand their research partnership advocating for Earth Science collaboration. The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Pyeong-Koo Lee, the President of KIGAM, and Dr. Chuluun Oidov, the Chairman of NGS.

KIGAM and NGS have been sharing common goals of fostering research endeavors and enhancing the geoscience research impact via a network. Since NGS is one of the cooperating organizations of Mongolia's Railway Development projects, Mineral Resources Division of KIGAM is highly interested in cooperating with Mongolia for Mongolia's Railway Development Strategy in connection with the establishment of the East Asia Railway Community (EARC).

Also, Mongolia is known as a key producer of critical minerals. During the in-depth discussion with NGS delegation, Dr. Pyeong-Koo Lee emphasized that "in the era of the energy transition to clean energy and carbon neutrality, cooperation with Mongolia is a critical agenda for KIGAM in terms of diversifying the supply chain of critical minerals." He added that "through the MOUs and joint researches with NGS, KIGAM hopes to strengthen cooperation with NGS and Mongolia not only in the field of critical minerals but also in the various fields of Geoscience."
