MOU Signing Ceremony between KIGAM and KAZAKHSTAN

Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources(KIGAM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding(hereinafter referred to as "MOU") with two public parties* from the Republic of Kazakhstan to support geological cooperation between KIGAM and Kazakhstan. The signing ceremony was held on November 22, 2022 in Kazakhstan, joined by Dr. Seho Hwang, a Vice President of KIGAM, H.E. Mr. E. Akbarov, a Chairperson of Committee of Geology of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology, and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan and H.E. Mr. A. Kushumov, a Director of Department of Subsoil Use for Solid Minerals of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

This MOU was signed by both parties in order to agree on mutual cooperation in the field of geology and subsoil use for solid minerals. Also, there was a discussion on some plans to conduct joint research projects on exploration of promising mines of Kazakhstan in 2023.


On November 23, 2022, the day after the MOU signing ceremony, Dr. Seho Hwang had a meeting with H.E. Mr. Roman Sklyar, the Firtst Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan and H.E. Mr. Serikkali Brekeshev, the Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources. H.E. Mr. Roman Sklyar and H.E. Mr. Serrikkali Brekeshev expressed gratitude to KIGAM for technological support from KIGAM to Kazakhstan so far.


Dr. Pyeong-Koo Lee, a President of KIGAM, left a comment of this exchange and cooperation between KIGAM and Kazakhstan. He said, "Joint research projects on exploration of promising mines of Kazakhstan will be a new breakthrough for reorganizing and expanding the global supply chain of critical minerals." And he added that "Based on technical and human network of KIGAM, we will do our best to maintain an amicable relationship between KIGAM and Kazakhstan."
