Visit of CTBTO to KIGAM
The Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) visited Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) on 11 August, 2023. During the visit, Dr. Pyeong-Koo Lee, the President of KIGAM, and Dr. Robert Floyd, the Executive Secretary of CTBTO had a meeting for further cooperation.
KIGAM and CTBTO discussed a plan about “CTBTO-KIGAM Expert Meeting”, which will be held in this October in Daejeon, Korea hosted by KIGAM. The meeting will be an expert meeting on advances in waveform processing and special studies, and on special studies and ETA with RN and ATM methods. Both sides expect that the meeting will help to strengthen cooperation between two.
After the meeting between Dr. Lee and Dr. Floyd, there was a presentation by Dr. Tae Sung Kim, the Principal Researcher of Earthquake Research Center, KIGAM, about the current status of Earthquake Research Center of KIGAM and the analysis results of North Korea’s nuclear tests. Also, there was a discussion on Korea Seismic Research Station (KSRS) of KIGAM in Wonju, Korea, which is the National Data Center (NDC) in Korea.
Dr. Pyeong-Koo Lee said in the meeting that “We are really glad to introduce our current status on the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT). We look forward to expand cooperation between KIGAM and CTBTO.”
