Visit of Kazakhstan Ambassador to KIGAM

The H.E. Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Korea visited Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (“KIGAM”, President: Dr. Pyeong-Koo Lee) on September 21, 2023. During the visit, there was a meeting between Dr. Pyeong-Koo Lee, a President of KIGAM, and Mr. Nurgali Arystanov, an Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Korea.

During the meeting, there was a presentation about the current status of mineral exploration targeting for Bakennoye project in Kazakhstan by Dr. Chul-Ho Heo, a Head of Critical Minerals Research Center in KIGAM. Also, Dr. Kyeong Woo Chung, a Director of Resources Utilization Division in KIGAM, gave a presentation about accomplishments and challenges of KIGAM’s Resources Utilization Division.

Meanwhile, KIGAM and Kazakhstan have been good strategic partners with each other so far. In 2022, A Memorandum of Understanding(hereinafter referred to as “MOU”) on cooperation in the field of geology was signed by KIGAM, the Committee of Geology of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Department of Subsoil Use for Solid Minerals of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development of Republic of Kazakhstan. Last June, KIGAM’s researchers visited Kazakhstan to conduct in-site analysis for minerals resources exploration.
