Development IOR/EOR Technologies for UAE Carbonate Reservoirs
DEVELOPMENT IOR/EOR TECHNOLOGIES FOR UAE CARBONATE RESERVOIRS KIGAM

Middle East carbonate reservoirs contain around 50% of the worlds oil. However, it is very difficult to characterize and manage carbonate reservoirs owing to physical and chemical diagenesis, their complex pore structures including natural fractures, and due to issues related to the oil-wet properties. From 2015, KIGAM have been a leading organization in the Korean consortium regarding the development and characterization and IOR/EOR technologies targeting the Haliba reservoir located in Abu Dhabi, UAE, which is operated by Al Dhafra Petroleum (ADNOC, KNOC and GSE) (Fig.1). This project mainly focuses on reservoir characterization, IOR/EOR technologies such as optimum reservoir modeling and decision making with MPS and TDRM, optimum matrix-acidizing designs, gaseous stimulant fracturing in tight carbonate reservoirs, and on the development of hybrid EOR technology with low-salinity conditions. During this project, we expect to secure IOR/EOR leading technologies and gain experience pertaining to Middle East carbonate reservoirs while also supporting Korean private/national companies participating in the Middle East oil business.
