Study for Shallow Depth Biogenic Gas Reservoir
STUDY FOR SHALLOW DEPTH BIOGENIC GAS RESERVOIR KIGAM

In 2017, a shallow-depth gas reservoir was discovered in Daejam-dong, Pohang City (Fig. 1). KIGAM conducted several surveys, including 2D seismic data acquisition, coring and well logging analyses in the urban area of Pohang City to characterize this reservoir. The findings indicate that the shallow gas originated from biogenic gas which had trapped in the turbidite sand reservoir at a depth of less than 300 m. This marked the first discovery of an onshore biogenic gas reservoir in Korea. KIGAM has expanded study area in the Pohang Basin and continued research to develop exploration and production techniques for shallow biogenic gas.
