Introduction

To prepare for and safely respond to volcanic disasters, the Volcano Research Group evaluates the risk and possibility of eruption of active volcanoes on the Korean Peninsula and develops monitoring techniques for volcano eruption prediction. Through technological exchanges with advanced overseas volcanic research institutes, we strive to strengthen its own volcanic research capabilities and advance the level of volcanic monitoring technology.

Major Activities

  • Characterization of magma pluming systems for active volcanoes on the Korean Peninsula
  • ‌ Development of volcano monitoring techniques for volcano eruption prediction
  • Establishment of Database for the history of active volcano eruptions on the Korean Peninsula
  • Performed international joint research (Motoza et al., 2022, Science) of Tonga Volcano (January 22)
